Moombahton. What is it? In a nutshell, it’s an new, emerging genre that merges Dutch house music and reggaeton. So basically, everything that Diplo has done recently =P. Here’s 5 of my favorite “moombahton” songs. (Some of these may not be slow enough to fit exactly into the genre, but the musical elements are definitely there.)

Best Friends: Brad & Dead – El Paso, 2009. “Sorry bro, I had to take a pic!”
So my good ol’ pal deadmau5 has pretty much infiltrated mainstream music, as I’m sure you know. It’s great that he’s gotten millions of people to appreciate his music, but then again, it’s also got its downsides. Why, you might ask? Well, many of these newfound mau5 converts have never experienced anything prior to his 4×4=12 album, and are oblivious of the vast legacy of Joel’s work. In my opinion, his tunes within the last few years seem to have gotten progressively less inspiring, minus a few stand-out tracks. I still firmly believe that Random Album Title was his creative apex, yet there are many other impressive songs that he created or remixed many years ago that the majority of his followers don’t know about. Cosmic Gate is playing at local club Zouk this Saturday, 11/12. I actually despise that club for shows, because it was obviously not intended to be a venue for a DJ set.
